Fighting to be Heard

Our first week in Florence, we ran into a protest. Though photojournalism isn't something I am used to or understand completely, I approached the scene with my camera held up to my eye. I knew what was happening needed to be documented. The passion and energy on the street was alive. The language barrier proved to be difficult, but after going to the protest a couple of times and doing some research I have gathered a very base knowledge of the events that led to the protest. The Somali refugees in Florence gathered in the street outside of a government building because a housing shelter they lived in caught fire. One man dyed and the police were not figuring out solutions leaving many people without a home in the cold weather.

A police officer noticed my camera almost capture him vape and pulled away.
